Zack Sulsky and the Throwbacks

Join Zack Sulsky and the Throwbacks for an evening of original jazz, with some familiar favorites thrown in. Pianist, composer, and vocalist Zack Sulsky draws on the melodic clarity of Horace Silver, the exploratory harmony of Bill Evans, and the hard-swinging rhythm of Count Basie to create a trio sound that is distinctive yet familiar. You’ll hear original compositions ranging from swinging jazz to lilting waltzes to lush ballads to wry, witty lyricism.
Zack is joined by the inventive, subtle, and swinging rhythm section of Brian Chain on bass and Taylor Hamill on drums.

Paleolithic Jazz Quartet

When we are open there’s Jazz! November 7th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents Paleolithic Jazz Quartet.

The Paleolithic Jazz Quartet (P.J.Q.)is a musical collective of artists who love jazz and love to get together and share their musical thoughts with each other and the public. The core of that collective is Howard Slavin on guitar, Dave Thomas, trumpet, Brian Chain, bass, andTaylor Hamill, drums, but often friends and guests will join us and contribute to the melange.

The name “Paleolithic Jazz Quartet” is a tongue-in-cheek tribute to both our longevity, but also our reverence for the history and traditions of jazz. Likewise, while the Modern Jazz Quartet was called the M.J.Q, in homage we call ourselves the P.J.Q.. While our backgrounds are diverse, ranging from the 1960’s rock & roll East Coast college circuit, to big bands, small groups and swing dance bands, we are each deeply rooted in the Denver jazz scene.

We have been featuring the talents of a singer new to Denver. Earl Harper is a recent transplant from Hawaii. He is classically trained, having performed with the Houston Symphony Chorus, but Earl has beautiful jazz “chops” as well. Considering the addition of Earl’s tastes to the mix, during our performance you may hear a soulful spiritual, a show tune or two, a jazzy pop ballad, some originals from Dave or Howard, and a healthy serving of favorite treats from the Great American Song Book.

We hope that you will sense and share with us our reverence and joy for the music, and most of all the beauty and fun of live music from people who love what they do.

Chill: Channing Lynn & Bill McKay

When we are open there’s Jazz!  October 10th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents Chill: Channing Lynn & Bill McKay.

Chill is Channing Lynn and Bill McKay. Chan plays clarinet, saxophone, and banjo…Bill plays piano. Together they produce a jazz/ folk/ blues blend with a cabaret feel. There are jazz standards, classic boogie and piano blues, original music with calypso and island vibes, and unique takes on timeless songs by the likes of Pink Floyd, John Lennon, and the Grateful Dead.
Bill has been performing for over 25 years based in Colorado, having spent 11 years as the keyboardist for Leftover Salmon, and 5 years with the Derek Trucks Band. He met Channing in the Virgin Islands, where she spends part of each year. Chan’s bohemian minstrel lifestyle has brought her around the world, and her charming inviting performance style enraptures audiences wherever she goes. Chill exudes fun energy and a love of life with engaging personalities and expressive musical talent!
