When we are open there’s Jazz! August 4th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Bistro & Jazz Club, presents Rekha Ohal & Dexter Payne.

They play a variety of music, ranging from Sinatra and Ella to Radiohead and Beck, in a jazz and pop format. A long standing favorite in the Denver scene, this trio is excited to be performing at La Cour for Jillyn Archuleta’s art opening.

Clarinetist Dexter Payne has performed from Tijuana to Paris, from Montreal to Buenos Aires. Highly ranked in Downbeat Magazine Readers Poll (2004 & ’06) and 2011 International Blues Challenge winner, Payne is equally at home playing Brazilian choro jazz (modern instrumental spectrum of musica brasileira – choro, samba & nordestina) as he is playing jazz and blues. And yes, you may also find him on the business end of an alto or bari sax, or even blues harp!

When we are open there’s Jazz! July 31st 7-10pm, La Cour, French Bistro & Jazz Club, presents the Mike Hyland Jazz Trio.

Come join the Mike Hyland Trio as they explore a variety of Jazz standards from the great American songbook as well as some originals and even some Journey.  Witty banter is guaranteed and free of charge.

Mike Hyland is quickly becoming an in demand jazz and rock guitarist in denver.  Playing frequently with his own quartet and trio as well as with the Andy Hackbarth Band.  .

During college, Mike had the opportunity to play with various musician in the Denver metro area. His time at CU also afforded him the honor and transformative experience of studying with the legendary educator and guitarist Dale Bruning. Mr. Bruning became a role model, not just as a guitarist but as a human being.

After graduating from CU, Mike moved to Seattle, where he joined the Hal Sherman Big Band and formed the Mike Hyland Quartet.  Mike moved back to Colorado and earned a Master’s in Jazz Performance and Pedagogy from CU Boulder.  He now lives in Denver where he teaches private guitar lessons at his home studio, Metropolitan State University and the University of Colorado Denver.

Julian Archer

Julian Archer is a lively drummer from Denver, Colorado. He has performed professionally with many notable musicians such as Greg Gisbert, Brad Goode, Eric Gunnison, Mike Olmos, Javier Santiago, and many others. He has performed across the country at The Monterey Jazz Festival, The Newport Jazz Festival, SF JAZZ, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Savannah Music Festival, Dazzle Jazz Club, Snug Harbor, Black Cat, Catalina Jazz Club, and more.
His trio consists of Max Moore (piano), Hunter Roberts (bass), and Julian Archer (drums). They will be playing exciting arrangements of jazz standards, as well as Julian’s original music. Come join us for a beautiful and enticing night of music!

When we are open there’s Jazz! July 23rd 7-10pm, La Cour, French Bistro & Jazz Club, presents  Marcia Carteret Trio.

Denver vocalist Marcia Carteret will be joined by guitar duo Neil Haverstick and Brendan Bondurant for an evening of intimate jazz music. Musical selections for the evening will include classic jazz standards by great songwriters like Johnny Mercer, Duke Ellington, and Blossom Dearie.  With two great acoustic guitarists on stage, there will definitely be tunes in the Brazilian jazz style as well. Don’t miss an evening of relaxing intimate music.

When we are open there’s Jazz! July 21st 7-10pm, La Cour, French Bistro & Jazz Club, presents The “Rich Chiaraluce Trio” with Ed Stephen on guitar – Joe Lopez on bass.

Rich Chiaraluce— Saxophone, Flute & Clarinet

Originally from New Haven, CT, he attended the Navy School of Music and went to Colorado Springs, CO to play with the NORAD Band in 1967. After his Navy service, he studied woodwinds at the University of Northern Colorado, graduating in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education.

Rich is the lead alto player with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. This is a position he has held for a number of years. Working with Buddy Morrow was truly a privilege for Rich. The band has performed several times at Montreal Jazz Festival in a Battle of the Bands with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Who won? TDO was smiling afterwards. He was also the leader of the Artie Shaw Orchestra for several years.

Rich has performed with many of the famous singers from the American Songbook Era including Mel Tormé, Tony Bennett, Nancy Wilson, Dakota Stanton, and Natalie Cole. He has also played with the Woody Herman All-Stars.

His work also includes show work at Denver Center of the Performing Arts and other venues as well as the Colorado Symphony Orchestra’s pops concerts. This includes their recording of Too Hot to Handel.

Rich has two CDs of his own, both showcasing him on his doubles — alto, tenor, soprano sax, flute, and clarinet. Because I Love You is with a quartet and features jazz tunes. Rich Chiaraluce Live at Sherman’s Coffee House spotlights familiar swing tunes with guitarist Dale Bruning and bassist Ken Walker.

Linda Theus-Lee & HeartStrings

When we are open there’s Jazz! July 18th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents Linda Theus-Lee & HeartStrings!

 

Linda Theus-Lee’s musical journey has been on a continuum since a very young age. A native of Los Angeles, California and born into a musical family her musical roots started early by studying dance and theatre, and by watching her older siblings create music with original ideas and creative expressions. Theus-Lee, first love was dancing, but then as time moved on she found herself with the love of singing. She says “I’ve always had an affinity to sing and create at a young age.” She feels that her passion and style is a gift from God that needs to be embraced, and celebrated.

Having toured the world wherever her voice took her, she arrived in Denver 16 years ago. She has played throughout Denver, including performing the National Anthem at the Pepsi Center for the Denver Nuggets, her one woman show entitled “Rea’s Story” at the Crossroads Theatre, and even opened for Kenny “BabyFace” Edmonds when he performed at the Grant Amphitheater in Clement Park in Littleton, Colorado 2011.

Theus-Lee’s musical creativity lives in vocal Jazz, Blues, Musical Theatre and R&B. In addition she is also a very talented percussionist, and loves writing songs on her guitar. She loves family and friends and holds a Master of Social Science degree with emphasis in Education and Counseling from the University of Colorado Denver. Linda’s ongoing commitment is to empower students about how important they are, and about the importance of education in their lives!

Maria Diedrichs Lopez is a passionate singer with many years of stage and screen experience.  Her passion is to weave together the mind, heart and spirit of her audience through music.  Her voice is captivating and compelling.  Her Swiss-American-Ecuadorian background allows her to perform in an impressive variety of styles in multicultural and multilingual contexts.  Maria’s audiences have proven to be most fond of her Edith Piaf repertoire, her strong salsa voice & moves, and surely her personal favorite, a romantic combination of styles including of jazz ballads in French, Spanish, English & Portuguese: “Maria-s International Piano Bar”
Maria’s voice and presence are life changing.  You must hear her to know.
Maria D. Lopez and Dan Geisler perform “Hymne à l’Amour” by Edith Piaf among many others!  They have been performing together for several years with the “International Piano Bar”, a romantic combination of styles in different languages including French, Spanish, English and Portuguese.

Jan Cleveland

Jan Cleveland – Vocals: Actor, singer and musician, Jan has performed in films, regional theaters and nightclubs throughout the U.S.   She capped four years on the New York stage with the lead role in the hit musical “I Still Believe in Love”. Her first CD, Love You Madly, took the entire group to Queenstown, New Zealand to headline New Zealand’s 25th annual Jazz Festival. Her second CD with G.A.M.E.jazz, Nights on Broadway, is a favorite, featuring jazz arrangements of great Broadway hits. G.A.M.E.jazz is now working on their recording of famous latin jazz tunes.

Doug Roche – Piano: Doug is a professional pianist, who studied with Bobby Timmons, Herbie Hancock, and at North Texas State. Doug toured internationally with The Lettermen, and was the assistant musical director for “It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues” at the Cleveland Playhouse in conjunction with the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has performed on NPR at jazz festivals with Roseanna Vitro and Giacamo Gates, and worked with numerous jazz icons including Buddy De Franco, Joe Farrel, Terry Gibbs, Red Holloway, Eddie Harris, Richie Cole, and Lew Tabakin, to name only a few.

Ron Bland

One of the best n the business, Ron Bland has been a professional bass player for over 35 years, appearing in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe.   He performs  at the Jazz in Vercors Festival in Villard de Lans, France every August, and is a clinician for the workshop associated with the festival.  Ron has also performed with numerous jazz luminaries, including Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Eddie Daniels, Billy Taylor and Doc Severinson to name only a few.  Skilled in playing both the electric and double bass, Ron is on the music faculty at Metropolitan State College of Denver, University of Colorado at Denver, and Colorado School of Mines
