Southside Jazz Project

Southside Jazz Project

When we are open there’s Jazz!  June 8th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents Southside Jazz Project.

“Southside Jazz Project is a community of musicians that enjoys the intersections of life.  We seek out the musical intersections between tradition and modernity, between straight-ahead jazz and Latin jazz, between instrumental and vocal jazz, and between jazz and popular music.  The line up for the band changes as life takes us in different directions.  But the community of musicians and the conversation between them is always there.  We look forward to spending an evening with you to share our love of music as conversation.”

  Robert Strickland, bass and vocals
  Gary Pfeiffer, drums
  Ron Palumbo, guitar

Cj Nicolai & Larry Wegner

CJ Nicolai Larry Wegner

When we are open there’s Jazz! June 7th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents jazz duo CJ Nicolai & Larry Wegner.

CJ Nicolai

Larry Wegner and I have been performing together nearly nine years now. We first met and started collaborating at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, where we still take the stage on a regular basis. From those cabaret roots grew a fantastic creative partnership which has now evolved into our upcoming EP and album.

While many know Larry from his regular Thursday nights at the Clocktower, many also know him from his longtime tenure at the Brown Palace for tea, or from his days at the late Crown Social. He’s been making music and performing for decades and has all the flourish, polish, and panache you could hope for.

We share a deep appreciation of the Great American Songbook and of the music of decades past. In our performances, we love to deliver both the well-known-and-loved standards, and also the lesser known gems, some surprises, and other exciting things that I can’t tell you about just yet! Larry’s sensitive and inventive piano skills are the perfect vehicle for the vocals I love to deliver — inspired by, but never mimicking, Ella, Sarah, Billie, and the legends we all still sigh over.

Paleolithic Jazz Quartet

Paleolithic Jazz Band

When we are open there’s Jazz! June 5th7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents Paleolithic Jazz Quartet.

The Paleolithic Jazz Quartet (P.J.Q.)is a musical collective of artists who love jazz and love to get together and share their musical thoughts with each other and the public. The core of that collective is Howard Slavin on guitar, Dave Thomas, trumpet, Brian Chain, bass, andTaylor Hamill, drums, but often friends and guests will join us and contribute to the melange.

The name “Paleolithic Jazz Quartet” is a tongue-in-cheek tribute to both our longevity, but also our reverence for the history and traditions of jazz. Likewise, while the Modern Jazz Quartet was called the M.J.Q, in homage we call ourselves the P.J.Q.. While our backgrounds are diverse, ranging from the 1960’s rock & roll East Coast college circuit, to big bands, small groups and swing dance bands, we are each deeply rooted in the Denver jazz scene.

We have been featuring the talents of a singer new to Denver. Earl Harper is a recent transplant from Hawaii. He is classically trained, having performed with the Houston Symphony Chorus, but Earl has beautiful jazz “chops” as well. Considering the addition of Earl’s tastes to the mix, during our performance you may hear a soulful spiritual, a show tune or two, a jazzy pop ballad, some originals from Dave or Howard, and a healthy serving of favorite treats from the Great American Song Book.

We hope that you will sense and share with us our reverence and joy for the music, and most of all the beauty and fun of live music from people who love what they do.

Linda Theus-Lee’s musical journey has been on a continuum since a very young age. A native of Los Angeles, California and born into a musical family her musical roots started early by studying dance and theatre, and by watching her older siblings create music with original ideas and creative expressions. Theus-Lee, first love was dancing, but then as time moved on she found herself with the love of singing. She says “I’ve always had an affinity to sing and create at a young age.” She feels that her passion and style is a gift from God that needs to be embraced, and celebrated.

Having toured the world wherever her voice took her, she arrived in Denver 16 years ago. She has played throughout Denver, including performing the National Anthem at the Pepsi Center for the Denver Nuggets, her one woman show entitled “Rea’s Story” at the Crossroads Theatre, and even opened for Kenny “BabyFace” Edmonds when he performed at the Grant Amphitheater in Clement Park in Littleton, Colorado 2011.

Theus-Lee’s musical creativity lives in vocal Jazz, Blues, Musical Theatre and R&B. In addition she is also a very talented percussionist, and loves writing songs on her guitar. She loves family and friends and holds a Master of Social Science degree with emphasis in Education and Counseling from the University of Colorado Denver. Linda’s ongoing commitment is to empower students about how important they are, and about the importance of education in their lives!
