Paul Ricci

MAFALDA MINNOZZI presents “SENSORIAL – Portraits in Bossa & Jazz”

“Appearing in Denver for the first time, powerhouse singer Mafalda Minnozzi will present a magical cultural fusion from her show “Portraits in Bossa and Jazz” that has toured Italy and Brazil.”

Mafalda has an over 20 year solid touring and recording career in Italy and Brazil, marked by collaborations with Milton Nascimento, Guinga, Leny Andrade, Toquinho, Andre Mehmari and others while  Ricci’s work with Dom Um Romao, Edison Machado and Astrud and Bebel Gilberto bring something special to the duo.

Mafalda’s charismatic stage presence, vocal range and versatile timbral palette that blurs the line between singer and improviser and earned her a prestigious “Targa Tenco” nomination by the Italian press and a spot among the 10 best jazz vocalists readers poll in Italy’s JAZZIT magazine.

We can expect Mafalda to also draw from her “eMPathia Jazz Duo” project with Ricci to visit some great composers from Italy, France and America.

Lead singer Danielle Dubois brings an exciting, unique flavor to Sweet Street. Her musical theater background and jazz stylings are garnished with a modern R&B twist, adding a dynamic dimension to the band’s mad mashups and superlative standards.

With a musical theater degree from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Danielle is well versed in singing, acting, dancing and directing. She has performed in numerous productions including The Drowsy ChaperoneMedeaHamlet and Our Town, and has directed several short plays. She has also stud

Michael Ami

is a jazz pianist/singer with a difference. A classical pianist and composer since age four, he performed his own works, along with those of the great composers, at University of Miami recitals when he was just eight years old. His improvisation and ear skills showed themselves early, causing his piano teacher great consternation as Michael improvised riffs on Beethoven and Kabalevsky sonatas instead of playing the pieces as written.

After earning a Boston Conservatory of Music degree in composition, with a concentration in orchestral and choir conducting, Michael’s extensive repertoire of around 1000 pop songs landed him as a piano bar entertainer on cruise ships. Since leaving the seafaring life, he has concentrated on jazz, incorporating his classical and pop heritage into his unique interpretation of jazz classics. This wild mix of styles is behind Sweet Street’s trademark “mad mash-ups,” in which the duo combines two, three and even four songs into one unforgettable experience.

When not at the piano, Michael enjoys technological pursuits, and is a well-published author of books and magazine articles in the electronics field, as well as an inventor and an avid amateur radio operator.

Paleolithic Jazz Quartet

Paleolithic Jazz Band

When we are open there’s Jazz! September 4th  7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents Paleolithic Jazz Quartet.

The Paleolithic Jazz Quartet (P.J.Q.)is a musical collective of artists who love jazz and love to get together and share their musical thoughts with each other and the public. The core of that collective is Howard Slavin on guitar, Dave Thomas, trumpet, Brian Chain, bass, and Taylor Hamill, drums, but often friends and guests will join us and contribute to the melange. The name “Paleolithic Jazz Quartet” is a tongue-in-cheek tribute to both our longevity, but also our reverence for the history and traditions of jazz. Likewise, while the Modern Jazz Quartet was called the M.J.Q, in homage we call ourselves the P.J.Q.. While our backgrounds are diverse, ranging from the 1960’s rock & roll East Coast college circuit, to big bands, small groups and swing dance bands, we are each deeply rooted in the Denver jazz scene.  We hope that you will sense and share with us our reverence and joy for the music, and most of all the beauty and fun of live music from people who love what they do.
