Loose Association Jazz Quartet!

loose association

When we are open there’s Jazz!  July 10th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents Loose Association!

Loose Association Doug Yager Michael Fitzmaurice Brian Mullins

Join Brian Mullin’s and his group Loose Association Jazz Quartet at La Cour where they perform their new vintage jazz, original and standard songs.  Brian Mullin’s (tenor guitar and vocals), Doug Yager (tenor and c-melody saxophone), Dave Willey (piano and accordion) and Mike Fitzmaurice (upright bass and vocals).

Loose Association draws on original compositions by band leader Brian Mullins that he describes as new vintage jazz.  The vintage element originates from multiple sources of inspiration. Brian and band members have a deep appreciation of the jazz standards and the composers who use chord progressions, overprinted by expressive melodies that can transport musicians and listeners to another place and time.  Another source of the vintage vibe comes from the band instrumentation- tenor guitar, piano or accordion, and the ‘mystery horn’, a 1920’s vintage C-melody saxophone, the type played on Frank Zappa’s album The Grand Wazoo. The “new” in vintage is partly from the world influences from Brian traveling and performing in Europe, Vietnam, Central America, and the U.S.  This experience is woven into each composition either deliberately or unintentionally to create a fresh, new-jazz, world music sound.

Many in the band are multi-instrumentalists and have acquired their chops in other trad-jazz, Celtic, prog-rock, Latin, acoustic, and classical groups.

Whether performing original tunes or jazz standards, one thing is certain when hearing and seeing Loose Association perform, it will be dynamic.  Brian Mullins (tenor guitar and vocals), Doug Yager (tenor and C-melody saxophones), Dave Willey (piano and accordion), Mike Fitzmaurice (upright bass and vocals).

In Denver since 98 and with his singing spouse Julie Monley, music has stayed a family affair.  Tonight, Frédéric will be joined by Michael Fitzmaurice on bass.
