When we are open there’s Jazz! January 17th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents Linda Theus-Lee & HeartStrings!
Linda Theus-Lee’s musical journey has been on a continuum since a very young age. A native of Los Angeles, California and born into a musical family her musical roots started early by studying dance and theatre, and by watching her older siblings create music with original ideas and creative expressions. Theus-Lee, first love was dancing, but then as time moved on she found herself with the love of singing. She says “I’ve always had an affinity to sing and create at a young age.” She feels that her passion and style is a gift from God that needs to be embraced, and celebrated.
Having toured the world wherever her voice took her, she arrived in Denver 16 years ago. She has played throughout Denver, including performing the National Anthem at the Pepsi Center for the Denver Nuggets, her one woman show entitled “Rea’s Story” at the Crossroads Theatre, and even opened for Kenny “BabyFace” Edmonds when he performed at the Grant Amphitheater in Clement Park in Littleton, Colorado 2011.
Theus-Lee’s musical creativity lives in vocal Jazz, Blues, Musical Theatre and R&B. In addition she is also a very talented percussionist, and loves writing songs on her guitar. She loves family and friends and holds a Master of Social Science degree with emphasis in Education and Counseling from the University of Colorado Denver. Linda’s ongoing commitment is to empower students about how important they are, and about the importance of education in their lives!
“I seek to give visual voice to our shared experiences of life, love, beauty and nature.”
My artwork has evolved over 30+ years to include rich textures and a delicious color palette of sixteen liquid acrylics that allows me to explore abstracts, landscapes and portraits alike.
I typically begin by creating texture on the canvas using a thick lightweight acrylic paste that allows me to build up any type of surface, and sculpt and sand it before adding paint. I use a variety of implements like spatulas and hand rakes, as well as dried up paint and all kinds of found objects to create additional texture. I like to work quickly and get a lot of paint on the canvas at once, sometimes using my hands to move it around.
My paintings reveal a personal reflection of my interests and experiences over time. My intention is to draw the viewer into an experience of their own memories, thoughts, feelings and hopes and dreams. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art and a Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling Psychology, as well as a lifelong interest in and exploration of worldwide, universal spiritual studies and a meditative practice that guides and informs my art making. My artwork is in collections in the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Austria and the UK.
I also teach several workshop series that encourage participants to draw inspiration from within themselves and focus on self-expression rather than specifically how to paint or draw.
I live and work in Denver, Colorado with my husband, Craig and our studio dog Riley.
