Blue Sonnet

When we are open there’s Jazz! December 16th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents Blue Sonnet with jazz pianist Elea Plotkin, with vocalist Karen Banning with special guest jazz saxophonist and flutist, Matt Brodie.

Blue Sonnet performs songs that touch your heart. Highly original interpretations of the classic and classy torch songs made famous by the great blues and jazz artists of our time, such as Billie Holiday, Diana Krall, and Ella Fitzgerald. Add in the personal and imaginatively original songs reminiscent of singer-songwriters like Carole King and Bonnie Raitt, and you have Blue Sonnet. This duo showcases longtime Front Range singer-songwriter and jazz pianist Elea Plotkin, with vocalist Karen Banning, for a collaborative musical experience that is both soulful and entertaining!

We believe Live Jazz should be as accessible as possible. As always there is no cover charge.

The Klemm Duo with special guest Travis Kornegay

The Klemm Duo is comprised of Kevin Klemm at the piano and Angela Klemm on Vocals. They hail from the midwest but has made Denver their home since the summer of 2015. Inspired by the growing music scene and the reputation of the Lamont School of Music, the decision to move to Denver was an easy one.

Angela received a Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Akron in Ohio in 2014. She began teaching voice and piano lessons in the depths of her time in undergrad and is now a full time teacher at Avanti Music Academy in Highlands Ranch. Career-driven, Angela became the Head of the Voice department at AMA and has a full studio of voice and piano students during the week.

Kevin earned a B.M. in Piano Performance from the University of Akron in 2015 and just completed his M.M. in Jazz Studies from DU, studying with the ever venerable Eric Gunnison. He opened Kevin Klemm Studio this year and is growing his business in the Denver/Englewood area.

The pair has been involved in musical pursuits together since the beginning and have found that jazz music is what they enjoy performing together. Influenced by music from the turn of the century through the 90s, snippets of Rock ’n Roll, Musical Theater, Motown, Disco and Grunge make frequent appearances in their repertoire.
