These two Denver Greats, jazz pianist Ron Jolly & jazz bassist Ron Bland (aka Buddha of the Bass)  are hosting an evening of outstanding jazz!

These two will astound you with their complicity and talent!

Ron Bland – Bass: One of the best n the business, Ron Bland has been a professional bass player for over 35 years, appearing in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe.   He performs  at the Jazz in Vercors Festival in Villard de Lans, France every August, and is a clinician for the workshop associated with the festival.  Ron has also performed with numerous jazz luminaries, including Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Eddie Daniels, Billy Taylor and Doc Severinson to name only a few.  Skilled in playing both the electric and double bass, Ron is on the music faculty at Metropolitan State College of Denver, University of Colorado at Denver, and Colorado School of Mines.

Ron Jolly – Piano – Ron is a Denver native who received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Denver where he studied with Gene Rush and Steve Lee. Ron taught in the Jazz Department at DU’s Lamont School of Music from 1979-1987. Ron was a Denver Public Schools teacher from 1987 to 2018, teaching Music, Film and Audio Engineering at the Career Education Center. He led the Citywide Jazz Combo for the last 31 years. He has recently retired from teaching. Ron is one of the busiest pianists in the Denver area, performing with many local bands including Mollie O’Brien and the Blue Tips, What’s Cookin’, the Denver Jazz Orchestra, Diamond Orchestra and Next of Kin. He has performed with Moment’s Notice at corporate events and private parties since 1981. Ron has been a proud member of the eTones, house band for the nationally broadcast eTown radio program, since 1993. Ron has performed with many well-known musicians and groups including James Taylor, Michael McDonald, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Bob Weir, Tim & Mollie O’Brien, Sarah McLachlan, Joan Osborne, Rosanne Cash, David Sanford and The Pittsburgh Collective, Hugh Ragin, Dakota Staton, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, Gatemouth Brown, Pete Olstadt and Eddie Harris. He is known for his easygoing manner, creativity and dependability. Ron just passed the 53rd anniversary of his first piano lesson.

Maria Diedrichs Lopez is a passionate singer with many years of stage and screen experience.  Her passion is to weave together the mind, heart and spirit of her audience through music.  Her voice is captivating and compelling.  Her Swiss-American-Ecuadorian background allows her to perform in an impressive variety of styles in multicultural and multilingual contexts.  Maria’s audiences have proven to be most fond of her Edith Piaf repertoire, her strong salsa voice & moves, and surely her personal favorite, a romantic combination of styles including of jazz ballads in French, Spanish, English & Portuguese: “Maria-s International Piano Bar”
Maria’s voice and presence are life changing.  You must hear her to know.
Maria D. Lopez and Dan Geisler perform “Hymne à l’Amour” by Edith Piaf among many others!  They have been performing together for several years with the “International Piano Bar”, a romantic combination of styles in different languages including French, Spanish, English and Portuguese.

This guitar-percussion duo with vocals delivers a swamp blues-infused jazzy dish of Americana at it’s finest. The songs of Bessie Smith and Fats Waller, Johnny Cash and the Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead and Ben Harper all receive a unique and charming treatment by these seasoned professionals who have performed on stages and festivals throughout the world. Three-time Best of Westword Winner David Booker has performed with Bo Diddly, Dr John, and Rufus Thomas and has led his own bands in Colorado for the past 37 years. Jazz drummer Ben Makinen toured with Broadway shows and on cruise ships before coming to Colorado to play percussion with the Central City Opera, the Colorado Symphony and Denver’s top jazz artists. Together Booker & Ben share their enthusiasm for roots music in an intimate setting unique to La Cour Art Bistro and Cabaret.

Saxophonist / Music Educator Joe Anderies has assembled an unprecedented group of musicians that are all on the cutting edge of the youth, up and coming jazz scene of today. You will definitely be hearing more and more about these “young lions” of jazz on a national and international stage in the years to come. This group contains a wealth of incredible music composition. Join us to be part of this historic event!

Jan Cleveland

Jan Cleveland – Vocals: Actor, singer and musician, Jan has performed in films, regional theaters and nightclubs throughout the U.S.   She capped four years on the New York stage with the lead role in the hit musical “I Still Believe in Love”. Her first CD, Love You Madly, took the entire group to Queenstown, New Zealand to headline New Zealand’s 25th annual Jazz Festival. Her second CD with G.A.M.E.jazz, Nights on Broadway, is a favorite, featuring jazz arrangements of great Broadway hits. G.A.M.E.jazz is now working on their recording of famous latin jazz tunes.

Doug Roche – Piano: Doug is a professional pianist, who studied with Bobby Timmons, Herbie Hancock, and at North Texas State. Doug toured internationally with The Lettermen, and was the assistant musical director for “It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues” at the Cleveland Playhouse in conjunction with the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has performed on NPR at jazz festivals with Roseanna Vitro and Giacamo Gates, and worked with numerous jazz icons including Buddy De Franco, Joe Farrel, Terry Gibbs, Red Holloway, Eddie Harris, Richie Cole, and Lew Tabakin, to name only a few.

Deborah Stafford has been called one of the best Jazz & Big Band Singers in Colorado. After wildly successful shows with her Swingtet, her Jazz Quintet, and The Flatirons Jazz Orchestra in venues all over the front range, she will relax for an intimate evening of Jazz Standards and Jazzy Blues accompanied by Denver jazz pianist Bob Schlesinger and bassist Jason Malmberg. Enjoy a delicious dinner and let the music transport you to a world beyond time.

Rekha Ohal and Dexter Payne

When we are open there’s Jazz! May 5th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Bistro & Jazz Club, presents Rekha Ohal & Dexter Payne.

They play a variety of music, ranging from Sinatra and Ella to Radiohead and Beck, in a jazz and pop format. A long standing favorite in the Denver scene, this trio is excited to be performing at La Cour for Jillyn Archuleta’s art opening.

Clarinetist Dexter Payne has performed from Tijuana to Paris, from Montreal to Buenos Aires. Highly ranked in Downbeat Magazine Readers Poll (2004 & ’06) and 2011 International Blues Challenge winner, Payne is equally at home playing Brazilian choro jazz (modern instrumental spectrum of musica brasileira – choro, samba & nordestina) as he is playing jazz and blues. And yes, you may also find him on the business end of an alto or bari sax, or even blues harp!
