David Williams with Ellie Brown—and Matt Cantor on Bass
Gypsy Jazz, Blues, Literary Songwriting, Quirky, with a 30s flair
David Williams was the first to bring gypsy jazz to Colorado 20 years ago, and he has been recognized as the premiere gypsy jazz guitarist in the state ever since, and also well known as an exceptional blues, swing, country, and rock, multi-instrumentalist on guitar, violin, mandolin, and more. Influenced by people like Tom Waits, Leon Redbone, Randy Newman, and others in this ilk fine writing, his Emmy winning songs (for his work on PBS) have now had nearly a Billion hits on YouTube. As the Chicago Sun Times says, “his songs are full of interesting characters, in settings that range from roadside diners to the crowded streets of Chicago, to a barren farm in the middle of nowhere.” And Newsweek magazine says, “Williams works magic.” After a year’s stint in Nashville (“Nashville resident, outstanding poet and gifted singer/songwriter Williams is genius when it comes to delivery. Each song is pristine and magical as it brings you in to being part of the story,” Nashville Music Scene) and rave national reviews for his new album dedicated to the memory of Leonard Cohen, TIPPING MY HAT TO LEONARD https://www.realdavidwilliamsmusic.com/reviews David is hitting the road, touring in the US, with his musical partner Ellie Brown. And she is a true musical companion, writing quirky songs that get in your head and stick—from “Slowdown,” a true classic, equal to Willie Nelson’s “Crazy,” to her infectious and fun “Pulling A Marilyn Monroe,” which she co-wrote with David. Ellie’s sultry and playful vocals shine as she bounces on the stage with both wit and wisdom, often playing accordion, washboard, or uke—with a jug band twist. Together these two bring both the dark and light of life into play in a fascinating mix of styles that blend like no one else in songs that are literary, deep, unique, and fun.
They will be joined by the exceptional guitar and bass player, MATT CANTOR, of Gipsy Moon, who has played traditional jazz and swing in venues across the US.
We believe Live Jazz should be as accessible as possible. As always there is no cover charge.
